Daily Prompt: Crossing by The Daily Post

And they both crossed their fingers

Sitting across the table

Avoiding each other’s eyes

Anticipation, clearly visible

Fluttering eyelids

Silence cutting through the air

Dense nervous air.

He fidgeted.

She toyed with her phone.

Words were lost.

But then,

They looked at each other

And knew what the other had to say

They smiled

Things seemed simpler

But they didn’t know

The crossing of the fingers was different.

His, for luck.

To hear her yes.

Her, for the lie.

To say a yes.
